Top Characteristics of Successful Clients

Hi There!

I have worked with hundreds of clients on their nutrition and fitness over the past 4+ years. During this time I've noticed some things that are common among the clients who are successful at reaching their goals and I wanted to chat through some of those things today.

Common Characteristics of Successful Clients:

  • They keep it simple:
    • Clients who don't obsess over specifics do better! Why? Because the success isn't really in the details, but in the BIG PICTURE, right? An extra tsp of honey in your coffee isn't going to make or break you. Having your protein shake an hour later than you want won't make a difference. Keep the big picture and mind and work on the details once you get the main ideas down. Like writing an essay!
  • They have a long-term mentality
    • When clients come to me with a quick goal of losing weight for an event and they are so super focused on that, they might achieve their results, yes, but they often don't sustain this long-term. This is because their focus is on the number on the scale instead of all the ways their HEALTH is improving. It's super important to focus on how you FEEL during my program because that is what will keep you moving forward beyond our time together. When you focus on improving your health, the weight will almost always follow suit.
  • They are coachable
    • During my IF You Carb Cycle program, I ask my clients to do some tough things! I ask them to remove pop, sugary drinks, artificial foods, bread and pasta from their diet. I ask them to complete one 24-hour fast. And a lot of other things that they might not have done before. It's not easy! But it IS simple. The clients who follow my lead and trust me and the process do better long-term. If you come into the program already talking about what you CAN'T or WON'T do, your chance for success is much less than those who say, "Tell me what to do and I'll do it!"
  • They have support systems in place
    • It's much easier to be successful when you have an accountability system (that's me!), a plan in place, a support system at home, and a fully stocked refrigerator. Yes, I lay out the details for you in my program, and I'm there cheering you on the whole way, but clients who put their own support systems in place at home are more successful. That means taking ownership over your situation and setting yourself up to be as successful as possible. When we are prepared, organized, and go in with a plan, we can do better!

If you are interested in trying on this lifestyle of carb cycling and intermittent fasting, the next round of IF You Carb Cycle will start again on October 2nd! I'd love to take your hand, show you the plan, and help you achieve your goals! XO

Hi! Allow me to introduce myself...

My name is Katie and I'm the author of these emails, blogs, and owner of Harlan Coaching. I have quite a few new subscribers, so I thought it would be a good time to introduce myself to you.

I send emails throughout the week that are meant to inspire, motivate, and educate you in your health and fitness journey. If you ever have feedback, questions, or comments about anything in the newsletters, please feel free to write me back!

Okay, let me tell you a bit about myself… I am a mom to three young children and a wife to my very best friend and partner in this crazy life, Chris. I am an online health and fitness coach and a digital marketer, and I also teach group fitness classes on the side. I love helping people find their best selves through health and fitness. I also love sunsets, coffee, beaches, sweatpants, and pedicures. I am a positive person with a lot of energy, and I like to keep it REAL. I hope we can be friends!

My fitness journey started after I had my youngest daughter 4 years ago. I was tired of being tired and really ready to focus on me for a minute (3 kids under 3 was exhausting!). I knew nothing about nutrition, very little about efficient and effective exercises, and had no idea where I would find the time for anything other than managing my gaggle of children.

I found an online fitness coach (who continues to inspire me today!) and slowly but surely, she helped me figure out my nutrition, my exercise, how to fit it in, and how to quit giving so many excuses. And after working with her for 30 days, I had lost 7 pounds, 12 inches, and I had found more energy than I'd ever had--even with a new baby!!

My renewed confidence propelled me to continue on my fitness journey, and the results and changes kept coming. I found my pre-pregnancy weight. I wore a bikini post-babies with confidence. My clothes became too big. I became a fitness instructor. I found MUSCLE definition. I became an online health and fitness coach.

Over the past 4 years, I have not only found my best health and confidence, but I've shared what I've learned with hundreds (thousands?) of people and helped them transform their lives as well. It is the BEST job ever!!

As I discover new products and strategies, I will continue to share them with you! It is my goal to keep fitness and nutrition solutions SIMPLE so that we can sustain them long-term. In January, I put together all of my favorite information for gaining better health and bringing your family along with you (a key to sustainability) and created my very own program. It's called the 4-Week Slim Down. I've had 17 women go through the program and they are loving the simple check-in system, the meal plans, and the workouts I designed. The next round of this program will begin prep-week on February 20th and I'd love to invite you to join us. If you invest in yourself, it will pay you back in dividends. Check out the info here!

Does this sound like you?

I got a really special text yesterday and I want to share it because I think it will resonate with a lot of people, especially moms. "I just have to tell you that every year I pray and ask God for a word to focus on throughout my year. This year I got the word 'balance'. Then I signed up for coaching with you and keep hearing you say the word. Coincidence?! I'm accepting it as serendipitous and I'm excited for how much balance I've found in my life just in the past week! Excited for more! And thanks for your help in getting me to a more balanced place in my life in regards to health, nutrition, fitness, and overall wellness!"

Wow! Messages like this are simply the best.

I strive to live a balanced life, and it's a fundamental part of my coaching as well. I want my clients to be able to rock a swimsuit, feel their absolute best, look forward to healthy foods and exercise, and also be able to enjoy a piece of cake at a birthday party. Because life was meant to be LIVED and ENJOYED, and if you get super fit and healthy but cannot enjoy a piece of birthday cake once in awhile, well, that seems sad. And if cake isn't your thing, how about ice cream? My point is that balance trumps perfection, and that's what I teach my clients as well.

If you are looking for more balance in your life, I can help you, too! Click this link for more information about my Family Wellness Program, where I teach you how to get fit and how to bring your family along. I am also offering private coaching, as well. To discuss private coaching, email me  so we can set some goals for you!

Client Spotlight: Katy

client spotlightNot all of my clients are named Katy!  But this one is!!! Hahaha! I find that reading the success of others is a BIG motivator, wouldn't you agree? So I'm passing along another great story from another great Katy!

Katy approached me about helping her with some fitness goals she had a few months ago, and she was a bit apprehensive at first. But after one round, she is really sailing and honestly doesn't need me any more! Katy has created real habits in her life and found a love of fitness and nutrition in doing so. Read more about her results:

"So far on this journey I've done 3 rounds of the 21 Day Fix and I'm starting the last week of my first round of 21 Day Fix Extreme. I'm so happy and proud to report that I've lost about 15 pounds and 8.5 inches. I'm so glad I contacted Katie about starting these programs and making lifestyle changes because it's the first time I've seen results compared to other things I've tried in the past.

Katie's tips and coaching have helped healthy habits become a part of my daily life, not just something I do every once in a while. I love being part of her accountability groups. Having a daily goal that I'm going to report on helps motivate me to stay on track."

I can't wait to see Katy rock her summer wardrobe once the tundra thaws!

For the past 3.5 years I have offered monthly accountability groups to my clients, just like Katy spoke about above. You choose a program to work through and I coach you through it, cheer you on, and help when you need to troubleshoot.  If you are interested in joining a group just like Katy, please respond to this email and we can get you started!Another option I have for helping you reach your goals is by coaching you through a brand new program I have created based on what has worked to get me and my family in the best shape of our lives, Family Wellness: Simplified. This program has 5 more openings and we begin on Monday, January 9th! Click here to learn more about it.

Let's make this your healthiest year yet!
